|Here is Ribbon Star, which is Block 1 for our 2013 Saturday Sampler, Nifty Novelty. The blue background is for the Under the Sea version, and the cream background is for the Southwest Splendor version. For our Under the Sea sampler, we chose a beautiful coral color for Coordinate One and we chose a rich brown for the Southwest Splendor sampler. Note that the coral and the brown will be in all of our sample blocks, but the project has been designed so you can choose your own Coordinate colors! Stay tuned for pictures of the next blocks! |
Register today for the 2013 Saturday Sampler - Nifty Novelty! Think of the beauty and earthiness of the desert, and the majesty of the sea. We're doing a project wtih a fabulous way to feature novelty fabrics, and we have two finishing kits for you - Southwest Splendor and Under the Sea. This is going to be a great project!
You choose your color way - earth tones of the deseart, which will be tans, browns, greens, rusts, and golds, or the majesty of the sea which will be blues, greens, lavenders and more. Although the blocks will coordinate with our finishing kits, you are welcome to choose your own novelty fabric to use for this project. Southwest Splendor has desert scenes and southwest pots for the border; Under the Sea has turtles in the water for the insets and a beautiful underwater scene with angel fish, coral, and sea life for the border.
The sampler blocks will be 6" blocks inside the block star points for eight of the blocks, and the other five will be sampler blocks set on point with the corners coordinating on all five on point blocks. Finished block size will be 12". Finished quilt size will be approximately 80" x 80".
We have two ways you can do this project - as a Saturday Sampler, if you are local, or as a block of the month if you are not close enough to visit us each month! If you are doing it as a block of the month, the monthly fee includes everything you nned to make the top - blocks, borders, sashing, insets, plus your binding, and you do not need to pay the registration fee. If you are local, you need to register for the project and the details are outlined below.
Registration fee includes pattern and first block, and you will also get your 13th block FREE at the very end with your last block! You will need to select and/or purchase your background fabric, as well as your block star points and corners for the on point blocks. And we have finishing kits available as well.
If you are local and doing this project as a Saturday Sampler, complete your block and bring it back the following month and your next block is FREE! The fabrics will be a variety of colors in either the Southwest Splendor or Under the Sea colorway. Your block will include all of the feature fabrics to make the block. You will need to choose and purchase your own background fabric and star point fabrics; they are the same in each block and that will truly make your quilt unique to YOU!
For the sampler project, you will need to purchase 1 3/4 yards of background fabric, 1 1/2 co-ordinating fabric for block star points, cornerstones, and binding, and 3/4 yard of a second coordinating fabric for the corners of the blocks set on point and inner border. We are selecting medium value feature fabrics, so your quilt will look best if you choose darker fabrics for the coordinating fabrics described above. If you are thinking ahead to border fabrics, our finishing kits include everything you need for sashing, insets, and outer borders. If you are choosing other fabrics, you will need 1 1/2 yards outer border fabric, as well as 1 1/2 for sashing, and 1 1/2 for insets - but we'll give you all of those details after you get started! Note that the insets are directional, so the fabric requirements do account for that.
We are really excited about this quilt, and hope you will join us in this fun project. It will include a variety of techniques, and as always, you are welcome to stay and sew after you pick up your block, and we'll have short lessons on each of the techniques as we introduce them! And we are so exciting to have this great setting for novelty fabrics - how often have you gotten a fabulous directional fabric and then been reluctant to cut it up since you hate to lose the design - but this pattern features your directional fabrics so nicely! How Nifty!
And again, if you are not local and would still like to participate, you can select the block of the month option and we will send you the pattern with the first block and sashing, and then we will charge and send you a block each month! Your cost will include background, borders, binding, and of course the blocks - everything you need to make this beautiful quilt top!
Note: the photo shows feature fabric in the blocks; our version (with pattern modifications) will have 6" finished sampler blocks inside the blocks. We can't wait to show you the first block!
